where the wind gets built

PlunderPixels Shader

An Iris shaderpack wired to the whole of WindLink, not only the wind. This is where new wind behaviour is built and proven first, and what survives gets distilled into MCWIND for everyone else.

Where the standard comes from

MCWIND is not designed in the abstract. Every symbol in it started here as a feature in a shipping pack, and only became part of the standard once it held up in a real world at a real frame rate. mcw_fireLean was this pack's fire response first.

That order is the point. A standard extracted from something that already works is a different object from one invented at a desk, and it is why the header can be so specific about what breaks and why.

This pack carries its own implementation rather than including mcwind.glsl, because it predates the standard and does a good deal the standard does not cover. For a pack that vendors the header unmodified, see the Eclipse fork.

Honest scope

It needs Iris. It runs without WindLink, but not at full strength.

On its own you get the analytic wind: a heading that veers and backs over minutes, travelling gust fronts, eddies, and every one of the pack's own responses riding on them. That is a real wind field rather than a placeholder, and nothing nags you to install anything.

So it is worth installing on its own, and it is a noticeably different pack with the mod. The difference is not cosmetic and we are not going to pretend it is.

What it cannot do alone is see the world. Terrain shelter is the part people actually notice, and solving it needs the mod: without one there are no wakes behind walls, no speed-up over crests, no valley funnelling and no becalmed forest floor. Blade heights fall back to an assumed profile instead of being measured off your resource pack. The /windlink presets, live storm fronts, seasons, water bodies, heat and block-light shadows are all mod-fed too.

Minecraft 26.1.x, Iris. Proprietary, unlike the standard it feeds.

Strands

Grass as individual blades.

The strand carpet renders grass as separate blades riding the field rather than as waving quads. It is the heaviest thing in the mod, so it ships turned off, and the pack's own waved grass carries the wind perfectly well without it. This is what it looks like switched on.

Strands come from WindLink, not from the pack. It is one of the things in the list above that the shader cannot do alone.
